Last night’s short cut challenge on Shear Genius was to give all the curly hair models a dry graduated bob. There finished style was to be presented straight at the end of the challenge. They were given the instructions to turn in all their haircutting tools before washing, blow drying and straightening their model’s hair. You could hear the excitement in the stylists voices as they described this style as a boring, old-school, “PTA mom” style. Hmmm…that “passion” certainly didn’t help to make this challenge fun or easy for them I guess.

April & Brig were unable to impress the judges by decision time. Matthew & Janine were once again in the top two with Janine ultimately winning the challenge.

Models for the elimination challenge was a group of military wives who were asking to be transformed into classic 1940’s pin up girls. They would later record a video for their husband soldiers who were overseas. Each of their styles were to include traditional finger waves or pin curls video. Celebrity judge Robert Vedica joined for this elimination round.

As usual there were few stylists were able to successfully execute 1940’s style and shine while others were unable to deliver. Brig & Matthew came in at the top two creating perfect styles with Brig winning the overall competition!

April, Janine, and Amy (as usual) came in at the bottom three. After failing to meet judges expectations, it was Amy who was sent packing her bags!

Decided to post another one for the men (or the ladies in their lives)! Some guys are getting creative in ways to save money these days. A growing trend I’ve noticed among my circle of male friends is they are learning to cut their own hair to save money and some even being so brave to recruit their women at home to help them (me being one of them!) Although it takes a lot of patience and trust from your new “home stylist”, it can save you a good amount of money each month if you typically spending $20 plus a week or every other week in a barber shop or salon. Can we say gas money? You must of course learn how to work your clippers (with a guard) first to get the length of the cut right. Of course make sure to practice with a steady hand so you can master blending and “finishing” techniques when working around the edges of your ears and neck base line. I sometimes have to repeat “steady, steady” when cutting my fiancé’s hair so that I get the “fade” just right! Although I do get nervous, it feels good knowing he trusts me enough to know I won’t give him a bad hair cut! I do admit a home cut certainly does not replace the professional skills and technique you get with a professional stylist (and again the patience of one), but in the interim if your trying to save a little bit of cash- give it a try. The holidays might be over, but you can still ask for a new set of clippers for your birthday boys!

Unfortunately due to the natural wave, thickness, etc. of my hair, I could never pull off one of her cuts, but whenever she releases a new look, I often wish I could! She’s now rockin’ a shaved look under a short layer of hair that she sometimes funks out in a Mohawk, combs all layers to one side, or allows some shorter layers to fall to one side with slightly longer layers to fall on the opposite one. Going from black to gold tones and even adding hints of red at times, I look forward to see what she does in 2010 while starting new beginning and new hair trends!

Rihanna, Cassie, Lala? What do these three women have in common? They all have shaved a part of their hair off. My name is Tyfani and recently i’ve been paying very close attention to the urban crowd, and I’ve noticed that many people have been cutting their hair off. Everyone has been saying that Rihanna was the person to start the new hair/heat wave. But I’ve done some research and I believe that the main girl who started this whole hair cutting thing was Kelis. Back in 2004 she decided to cut her hair for her Bossy video. But the only difference between Rihanna and Kelis is that Rihanna has been put out in the public more than Kelis. But this hair style, cutting the side of your hair off or really thin, does help during the summer for women. I myself have decided to cut my hair really short and the side very thin. And I’ve noticed that I feel more free and somewhat at ease with my hair. But don’t get me wrong short hair is a hard hairstyle to keep up. Getting cuts bi-weekly, (If you have bangs) having them stick to your head because of all of the sweat, and making sure your hair stays down, are all problems you face when you have short hair. But, then again I am an African American who had ethnic hair. Maybe for other ethnicities, it might be a little bit easier handling a short hair cut. Another problem with having the “Rihanna” cut is finding the right beautician. I’ve had my hair short for about 7 months now and it took me that much time in order to find the right beautician to get it cut the way I want it. Not close or what they think I want. THE STYLE THAT I WANT! Some helpful hints when finding the right beautician is to ask around. Ask some of your friends where they get their hair done. Or you can do what I did. Search on the internet for local hair stylist who have samples of the hairstyles they can do on their website. I went to Divadolls.com located in Houston. And they do a great job at weaving and cutting. I went out on a limb and went there for them to get it cut. I was nervous but, I feel like the only way you can truly find the right beautician is trial and error. You can never be certain on whether or not a person can do the hair style that YOU want. When you’ve found the right person to do your hair, the next step would be to surf the web, and print out photos of the hair style that you want. You should print out many photos of as many dimensions as you can find of the hair style. Or you can mix and match, print out different hairstyles to get the hair style that you desire. Hopefully this site has helped you be in the KNOW of hairstyles. THanks for reading :]

Long after the planning has left you flustered and the honeymoon has left you breathless, your wedding will be remembered for generations by way of video and photographs. You paid hundreds of dollars for your special day to be documented. Consider your hair to be your crown that will top off the perfect look on the most special day of your life. Since it is in every picture that you are in your hair is really a most important aspect to plan and consider. This article will discuss what to think about and how to plan the most appropriate and spectacular hairstyle for a most amazing wedding day.

First, the bride should consider the formality of her event. Is your wedding in the evening or the afternoon? Will the event be held in a 1000 seat cathedral with doves being released at the end? Or will you be a favorite installment on YouTube for your backwoods country wedding complete with cowboy boots and a “rock the reception” type entrance? The formality of your event can help you decide the formality of your hairstyle. This will most likely dictate whether or not you will wear a veil. A veil can be long and very formal, limiting the hairstyles you may choose. Or the veil could be short and flirty, allowing for more choices for your hair. You could wear your hair down and untouched for a simple beach wedding. But this would be unacceptable for a highly formal evening wedding held at Trump Tower.

Second, the dress should be the centerpiece and most important aspect of the bridal attire. If you are wearing a long and highly ornate and beaded dress you should consider your hair to be quite simple. It should be out of the way and never get in the way of the appreciation of your dress. However, if your dress is simple with very straight lines you could get away with a high-maintenance hairdo that draws the eye to the face. It is fun to have a big curly hairdo if the bride always wears her hair straight. But don’t let the idea of a once-in-a-lifetime hairdo get in the way of you having an appropriate hairdo that allows your dress to be appreciated. Your hair should not compete with your dress. It should compliment the entire ensemble.

Third, the personality of the bride should be highlighted by her hairstyle. A severe bun with very tightly pulled back hair is quite inappropriate for a bride that is light and silly. Conversely, a fun sparkly sequined mop would be out of place on a bride with a serious and severe demeanor. Let your friends help you if you are in doubt about your personality. They should tell you the truth and help you avoid a contradiction in your hairstyle and your true personality.

Last, the hairstyle should be able to be maintained during the entire wedding event from beginning to end. If you are planning an entire day of activities from morning to night then you should avoid a high-maintenance do that will not be able to be maintained. Also, consider the weather. If your hair is straight then don’t plan to have curly hair on a muggy August afternoon. It’s just not practical. And you are only adding stress to your life by dreaming about it.

Practice is advisable. Pick a weekend 2 weeks before the wedding to get a final clip, color or whatever you choose for the big day. Don’t pick a dramatic change. Also, on this weekend wear your dress and have your hair and makeup applied exactly as you want them on the big day. This practice will allow you to practice with the veil or baby’s breath that will be placed in your hair. Have fun and take pictures to go off of on the actual wedding day.

Whatever hairstyle you choose don’t let it dictate your level of happiness. If your hairdo doesn’t end up just like you planned, go with the flow. You will still be having a memorable day. Have a memorable attitude to match!

This summer the pixies and the bobs have gained popularity with our favorite celebs. From Ms. Kansas’(Emily Deaver) forward combed pixie doo, to Mena Suvari’s super chic bob, every body seems to be getting in on the summer short cuts. The trend, it seems, is to keep the hair off your nape (cut the back shorter) and then accent the front, ie. bangs in an angle, super straight bangs, whispy layers that frame the face. But even for those of us who aren’t in the spotlight, the perfect hair style for summer is achievable, if you know how to choose.

The key is to start by figuring out the shape of your face, and choosing a style that enhances it with minimal effort, so that even in a hurry you can look your best. It seems like an odd thing to do, but it’s rather easy to figure out your face-shape. Measure accross your forehead (at the widest point), your cheekbones, and your jawline, and then from the edge of your hairline to the point of your chin. A diamond shaped face will be wider at the cheekbones, while the forehead and jawline are approximately the same width and significantly thinner than your cheekbones. An oblong or oval face will be longer than it is wide, and a perfect oval will have a length one and a half times longer than its width. For heart shaped faces, you expect to have a more narrow jawline, with progressively wider cheekbones, and the widest measurement at the forehead. With square and round faces it is easy to find yourself unsure of which is your own shape as the measurements will generally be the same, but you should be able to tell by looking at your face. Just go with your own judgement. Usually your width will be equal to your length, in some cases a round face may have slightly thinner measurements at the forehead and jawline, and tend to have a more curved hairline. Now that you know your face shape, you can choose a style that fits.

What would be the right style? First and foremost, you have to like it; like the texture that it would give your hair; like the shape of the hair style itsel. If you don’t like big hair, don’t get a super fluffy cut because your face is perfect for it. You have to go with your personal taste first. When you’ve narrowed it down to a general category (or categories) that you think you might like, you can go through and figure out which is best for you. Don’t forget to think about how much work will go into getting your doo to look the way you want it, and what products, if any, you’ll have to use to get the texture that attracted you to the style in the first place.

Oval faces can look good under just about any hair cut. If you’ve found your shape is oblong, generally something fuller at the sides with whispy layers ending between the cheekbones and jawline will best accent and soften the lines of your face. If you feel you have a high forehead you might want to try longer bangs, parted to the side. With round or square faces, a bit more height at the crown (top of your head) with closer cuts or whispy layers will elongate the face. You might consider soft waves to soften the straight lines if your face is more square. If the cut go past your chin, it would be best to sweep hair back toward your ears. A heart or diamond shape will have a delicate chin, and need to balance that with some weight at the nape. Hair cuts will help the face look well proportioned between the cheekbones and chin if hair is fuller in the back and come down to the chin line.

That should be a good start on choosing your summer cut. You definately want to talk to your stylist, and don’t let someone cut your hair if you don’t trust them. Good Luck…

There are many different kinds of Mohawks being worn. Traditional Mohawks seem to be a thing of the past. Some people place color on the tips of their hair before or after their Mohawk is finished to create their own uniqueness. Others decide to form their Mohawk so that there are five or six big points made that stick up down the middle. Yet, there are still others who shave a design or words into the side of their head to show off while their Mohawk is standing up. While these are creative ways to wear your Mohawk, they are not as new an innovative as getting your hair braided into a Mohawk. This provides a clean, crisp, braided design on the sides of your head.

After you figure what type of Mohawk you desire, you need to figure out if you want the sides glued down or braided. When having your hair braided into a Mohawk, one should remember to leave a small portion of the middle strip of your hair, between both braided sides, out. This allows for a fuller Mohawk and is not noticeable because the hair from the braids covers it. In order to ensure that the unbraided middle strip of hair going down the center of your head stands up in the morning, you should braid it upwards at bedtime. In the morning, unravel that middle strip braid and that hair should stick up with the hair in your braids on both sides.

Mohawks can be seen on average people daily as well as on celebrities like Rihanna and Kanye. The length of time to complete a Mohawk varies according to the Mohawk style and how intricate you want it. Mohawks may involve the use of styling products such as spiking glue or gel for the final touches. You may also need to use hairspray. Occasionally, depending on the style of the Mohawk, the use of a flat iron and/or a hair dryer may be needed. If you are thinking of obtaining a Mohawk style, since it is a form of art, the best thing to do is to search the internet and find as many styles and ideas as possible.

When you decide to get a tattoo the decision is not made in five minutes. A Mohawk design should not be made in five minutes either. Picking small parts of a design from a few sources will probably give you the uniqueness that you desire. Make sure that your design idea is really a feasible one. Remember that a wearing a Mohawk is a bold decision. Putting thought in to the process will help to ensure that the stares and looks that you get are mainly positive. Also remember, you can’t keep everyone happy at once. As long as you like your style, wear it with confidence.
